Greenhouse effect
The water vapor and CO2 in the atmosphere of the Earth allow the short wave radiation from the Sun to pass with a relatively small decrease in intensity. However, the long-wave heat radiation reflected from the earth is held back. For this reason the atmosphere never cools down dramatically. Increased CO2 levels in the atmosphere are causing global warming.
